Sauli rolled over and looked down at the sleeping bodies next to him in the bed. Reaching a hand out he brushed blond hair back and smiled. Slipping from the bed he pulled on a robe and padded to the kitchen.
Standing against the counter, a bottle of water in his hand, he thought back over the past few years. Smiling at the closed bedroom door, he let his laptop boot up before opening the web page.
Scrolling through all the pictures, he found the one that had captured his heart. He knew he would have to tell them soon.
~
For right now, he ran his fingers over the picture. Big brown eyes smiled at the camera. He sighed, he needed to tell them; right now this was his midnight secret. He had to converse with the agency during their working hours; since they were in Finland, that meant he had to be up at midnight.
Quickly typing, he kept an eye on the door; he never knew when Tommy would wake up. He was planning on talking to them about her over breakfast. They had talked briefly about it a few months ago. But now it was within reach.
~
He watched as the response came, and his eyes filled with tears. Putting his hand to his mouth to muffle the excited shriek, he looked over at the bedroom door. He couldn’t wait; he needed them with him right now, he had to tell them. Pushing away from the counter, he rushed to the room, throwing the door open. Rounding to Adam’s side of the bed he pressed his hand gently to a lightly stubbled cheek. Pressing a kiss to Adam’s mouth, he shook him awake. Quietly Sauli asked Adam to wake Tommy and bring him out to the kitchen.
~
Waiting at the counter Sauli kept looking at the computer screen and smiling. Watching them sit, he took a deep breath.
“Do you remember when we talked about… um… expanding our family?”
Tommy and Adam nodded. “Of course, but why did you wake us up at midnight baby?” Tommy asked around a yawn.
Sauli didn’t say anything, just turned the computer around..
Adam gasped and Tommy reached a hand out to touch the screen. “Is she…”
“Yeah, I’ve been talking to the agency at night when you’re both asleep. It’s all taken care of… if this is what we want.”
~
Adam looked from the screen to Sauli and smiled. “I want this, do you?” Adam said, as he looked over at Tommy and touched his cheek. Tommy’s answer was all over his face and the way he was petting the computer.
“We have a lot to do before we can get her: filling out immigration paperwork, getting the spare room ready, lots of shopping for toys and clothes…” Tommy had grabbed a piece of paper and was jotting down items they would need. “Wait, what’s her name?”
“Elina, it means bright light.”
They all looked at the picture and smiled.
~
“So when can we get her?” Tommy was bouncing in his chair.
“If all the paperwork goes through, we leave in four days.” Sauli said, quickly typing an email to the agency.
“Oh my gods, there’s so much to do!” Adam realized with a jolt. “We need to get packed and make sure we have everything for her.”
“We need to tell our families!” Tommy said realizing that in four days they would have a daughter.
“Already taken care of.” Sauli said as he closed his laptop, pushing it to the side.
“You have lots of midnight secrets don’t you?”
~
“Not anymore,” Sauli grinned as Tommy wrapped him in a tight embrace and kissed along his jaw.
“In four days we will have a six month old living here, so I think we should take advantage of the quiet while we have it. What do you say?” Adam asked his voice dropping an octave and his eyes darkening as he backed toward the bedroom.
“That is an excellent idea,” Tommy said as he pulled Sauli along, pushing the robe from his shoulders.
Sauli let his eyes close as he felt Adam come up behind him, large hands covering his hips.
~
Sauli sighed, leaning back, letting them take control. The feel of their hands, their mouths made his body tense, shuddering with the last threads of control. So close and they hadn’t even moved below his hips.
He barely felt as they moved to the bed, two bodies blanketing his. His hands reached up threading through blond and black hair, his mouth saying two names.
Finally he thought as he saw stars, the this moment’s perfection was only exceeded by the thought that in less than four days they would be a whole family.
The best midnight secret he ever shared.
